Resident Evil 7: Biohazard- Not A Hero, End of Zoe One last trip to the Baker's estate

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard- Not A Hero, End of Zoe One last trip to the Baker's estate

Nearly a full year after initial release, the final DLC has arrived for Resident Evil 7. Not a Hero sees the return of longtime franchise character Chris Redfield, while End of Zoe has players controlling a previously unseen Baker, Joe, who is trying to save Zoe. Both add-ons serve as enjoyable wrap-ups of the story started in the darkest corners of the Louisiana bayous.

Not a Hero picks up right after the main story, with Chris hunting down Lucas Baker through the mines and labs containing within. Hero is much more action based than the main game. Ammo is plentiful, and swarms of Molded come at you, inviting the opportunity to unleash round after round into them. It is a nice change of pace, and it is fun to just tear into these creatures. Story wise, it does explain why Chris is working with Umbrella, and does wrap up the Lucas storyline well enough. The DLC is short though, my play through lasting just over an hour, and a lot of that is due to upgrading Chris Metroidvaina style. It is a free add-on, but even so, it does feel like a lot of padding to make it longer.

End of Zoe meanwhile, does what the title suggests, tells the end of the Zoe Baker storyline of the main game. Joe is desperately trying to cure his niece of the virus that affected his other family members, and nothing will stop him from doing it. Joe isn't the one for weaponry, primarily dealing with Molded by boxing them. I got to say, I found this absolutely hilarious, in a good way. I was grinning widely while walking up to horribly mutated creatures and just punching them to death. This add-on also introduces another Nemesis-like creature that always seems to be stalking you, and is a nice addition to the story. This one is another short dlc, lasting a little over an hour as well. At a standalone cost of $15, it could have been a bit longer, however unlike Not a Hero, there doesn't seem to be as much needless padding in Zoe.

Of special note, I did play this on a PS4 Pro, in VR, which is the absolute best way to experience this game. Resident Evil 7 was easily the best showcase of VR for the year, and the DLC continues this, making everything a lot more intense when it feels so real. If possible this has to be experienced in VR.

These last two pieces of DLC are enjoyable enough, although length is certainly a big issue. Some might not like that these don't really answer a lot of the biggest questions many had at the end of 7, but it does wrap up the story of the Bakers in a satisfactory way. Overall, these are 2 fun add-ons that end the experience of a fantastic base game.
