The Curse of La Llorona: The Weeping Woman comes

The Curse of La Llorona: The Weeping Woman comes

I’ll be honest about this one, there isn’t much to say about this one. This is another entry into the Conjuring Universe and fits many of the same qualifications of the others of the franchise, this time focusing on a Mexican folklore that has been told to many children for years. This is an entertaining movie that has its flaws and doesn’t do much to set itself apart from others in the genre but is still a fun ride.

Linda Cardellini plays a social worker that has children that get stalked by the titular villain. She puts in an entertaining performance and does a good job making a character you can get behind. Both children actors are capable enough to make them emotionally investing. The best performance belongs to Raymond Cruz, who plays a former priest who helps the family. Cruz gives a charismatic performance that adds a lot of humor to the movie and makes the second half of the film a lot more enjoyable.

Beyond good performances, there is just not much to talk about. This is another film where jumpscares make up the vast majority of the horror. Characters advance the plot by being unbelievable stupid. Some of the decisions made in this movie are some of the most mind-numbingly stupid choices I’ve seen in a long time. The plot overall is kept really simple and is essentially the movie version of a roller coaster, you are there for the thrills, but after its done the experience is over and you move on. Overall, I would recommend this movie as something you get at home, or maybe as a cheap matinee. A fun, but in no way memorable, movie.
