Hush: 5 Years of Fear

Hush: 5 Years of Fear

In just 5 years Hush has managed to become a powerhouse haunt. Go by it's Westland location almost any night and more likely than not there will be a mob of people waiting to get in, and for good reason. Great atmosphere, scares, and effects make the journey into Hush Falls a memorable one.

The set design and ambiance of the location really makes the town of Hush Falls feel like a real place under siege. From the alleyways, to the market, through the bar, everything is well designed to suck you into the story that is being told. This is helped by very good actors, who not only manage to scare very well, but also interact well with the customer. I managed to have a few great conversations while moving through that varied from funny to downright creepy. Scares seem to come from every direction, with great use of misdirection to keep you guessing. It is also nice to see characters from the past return, a nice nod for those who have made the trip in years past.

The second half features a trip through a broken down subway train, the sewers, before finally ending up in the Hush labs themselves. This section, while still very well themed and acted, felt uneven with the first half. The scares seemed to come less often resulting in a bit of a lackluster ending. However, it should be noted that our group ran into the group in front of us, who had been moving incredibly slowly, so it is very possible we just hit bad timing.

It is recommended that if planning to go, get there as early as possible. The line builds quickly and can be slow moving. Also be aware that the waiting is completely outside, so be prepared in case of bad weather.

Top-notch scares, effects, and energetic actors combine to make Hush a house not to miss. It seems to grow bigger and better every year, and I can't wait to see what heights this house reaches in the next 5 years.
