Realm of Haunted Minds: Lost in the confusion
As you pull into the parking lot, the theme from Halloween plays over the grounds. To your right is a large amount of pumpkins, waiting to be taken home. Straight ahead is a building, beckoning you to come in and get your tickets. Inside you find various props and statues of some of the biggest characters in horror history. It is almost like a mini museum, getting you ready for the house. Once you get your tickets, it is time to head out through a darkened mini village, and to the waiting area for the house. Finally, the door that has warnings on it telling you to go back opens. There is no going back now. What follows is a fun haunted house, that is perfect for the family.
Stepping into the house you first meet a skeleton that lays out the rules for the house, and then you are let loose into a house full of narrow hallways, and a design that allows it to feel confusing at times. It is obvious that the house does not have a huge budget, and relies more on establishing dread and using confusion and claustrophobia as a means of getting scares. It does succeed in this goal well. Despite not having much in the way of major set pieces, it manages to provide an entertaining layout.
What really helps this house is some solid acting. There are some decent scares available, but the best part is the ability for the actors to have a creepy aura to them. For instance, there is one character that crawls along the ground slowly behind you, whispering warnings, and expressing desires to consume you slowly. It works really well.
In general this is a house that is perfect to take the whole family to. There are some good scares, but it is mostly a great atmosphere that makes this house. It has an old school haunt feel to it, that is just hard to find nowadays. It is also on the lower end of cost, and provides a solid house that is worth going to for a fun time. One of the better bargains in the area.
